This week is National Apprenticeship Week! We’ve had some great people join Step One through our apprenticeship scheme. Here, we share the story of our Customer Service Apprentice, Emily.
Emily’s Apprenticeship Story
Hi! I’m Emily and I have been working as the Customer Service Apprentice at Step One since November 2020.
Before I joined Step One, I was studying for my GCSE’s and working hard to gain knowledge around business and looking to use my skills within a customer service role. I saw the apprenticeship role advertised on the Exeter College Apprenticeship page and applied for the role instantly. I found that apprenticeships are great for people of all ages and experience because they enable you to learn new things and put your knowledge into practice. Personally, learning on the job and attending college once a week was a useful and hands-on way to work.
I decided to complete my apprenticeship with Step One, because I really liked the ethos of the company and the idea of helping to make a difference to people’s lives. The staff here are all lovely and I really enjoy working with them on group projects and with daily duties.
I am glad I chose to do an apprenticeship because it has opened doors for me as I am in my final few months of my current contract, and have already been offered a new contract, at the more advanced third level course which is fantastic news!
An apprenticeship was great for me because I have learnt so much in the past 14 months working here, and I am proud of all that I have achieved.
